Only pencilnecks go through life with a flat back and butt. Your athletes do not. So, how can you ask them to lift heavy weights while lying on a flat bench? “Flat” just isn’t the way Mother Nature made athletes! Granted, it’s in the rules of powerlifting that the bench for bench pressing be flat. Granted, you’ve grown used to it. Some of you will never change. However, the flat bench is NOT the best way to go! The revolutionary SportStrength Sport Bench is! Look at the curvature of the SportStrength Sport Bench in the accompanying photo. It’s not a haphazard curvature. It was carefully designed over years of experimenting to conform to the dorsal curvature of the greatest majority of athletes (who range in size from 5 feet to over seven feet tall, and from under 100 pounds to over 400 pounds in body weight) while under immense training stress. It’s fully adjustable from nearly vertical to negative 30 degrees. Here’s why:

  • 70-90 degrees (Vertical): Great for overhead pressing power from delts, triceps and serratus anterior muscles.
  • 35-60 degrees: This is “no man’s land” when it comes to pressing weights overhead for upper chest work or for sports movements. However, it’s a great setting for easy abdominal crunchers and (for athletes so-disposed) incline curls.
  • 0-25 degrees: At this setting, you’ll notice that the portion of the curved pad that your upper back is in contact with is nearly parallel to the floor. That makes this setting the most popular one for bench pressing in the power rack or Natural Smith Machine, and for doing most dumbbell work. Also excellent for intermediate abdominal crunchers.
  • -15 to 0 degrees: Also an excellent setting for dumbbell and rack work, but with a bit more emphasis upon the lower (sternal) pectorals. Also great for intermediate-to-difficult abdominal crunchers.
  • -30 to -20 degrees (Decline): Excellent for decline work and extremely effective for advanced abdominal work.

Note too the lateral bulge of the bench. That’s because most athletes’ kinesthetic sense while laying back to do dumbbell work isn’t always reliable. Especially beginners at heavy training. It’s an important, but (heretofore) virtually overlooked SAFETY feature. You will not believe the feel of the curved back while doing overhead work or rack work. It’s a natural, supportive, comfortable and SAFE feeling. It gives your athletes all the support they should have while handling the heavy weights. So, how come you haven’t seen this great training bench or anything akin to it before? Because it’s patented!
