Tight ankle joint=knee pain

I was curious if ankle tightness could lead to knee pain. Recently i have had an ankle injury and it caused tightness in my joint on the out side of the calf. During the therapy the joint loosed up and felt great so i went back squating heavy again and stopped doing the stretches. Now about 6 months later I have noticed a pain in the vmo area of my knee joint that seems to disappear when i warm up my ankle thoroughly and when i wear an ankle sleeve. I was curious if the knee pain could be caused by the ankle inflexibility. I recently started to do the band stretches again and the pain disappears. The Knee still feels stable and it only hurts right where the vmo inserts in to the knee cap. I read recently that my hamstrings maybe overpowering my quad so i started doing bulgarian squats, lungs, split squats and the problem seems to get better but the ankle stretches seem to work better. So what im asking is my reasoning right, could the ankle be causing my knee pain or is it something worst?
Thanks alot

It's possible. When looking at any joint problem you really should look at the joints on either side of it. The body is one big chain, what happens in one area can affect another.

If your ankle is lacking some flexiblity, then then loss must be compensated for elsewhere.

Or it could be a knee problem. Of course it's hard to say without checking it out first hand.

Ya I had a similar knee problem last year and it turn out to be itband syndrom what the doc said. And with strengthening the vmo and quads it went away. I still do the vmo excerises and have strengthen it.
I just happened to notice the pain dissappear when I did the ankle stretches, which i happened to be doing because of the cold weather it hurts now and again. I was curious if it s possible that the ankle could be teh cause or if maybe its my itband tighening all over again. Would a foam roller be a possible solution?

A tight, unflexible ankle can lead to altered knee movement in pretty much any activity, even walking, though may be slight. This can possibly cause problems.

stretches

What are some of the best stretches i could do that would help stretch out my quads and my ankle?

I would suggest maybe getting some ART done. If you've ever had a sprained ankle, it could relieve some of the scar tissue, or even simply alleviate some of the tightness in the tendons etc. around the ankle.
