Protruding abdominal muscle?

I just started training abs and while doing some incline board sit-ups, my mid abdominal region pops out like a balloon! It starts about 2 inches above my naval and runs for about 4-5 inches right in the middle of my abdomen. Very strange. Is this bad? What is causing this? I do have what is called a large amount of "visceral" fat...is that causing the abs to lie high on top of the fat? That area also cramps up a bit easy after only doing about 20 sit-ups or crunches...not sure if it's because the muscle is weak and out of shape or if I have some type of condition.

Any ideas on what this is?

Thanks!

Protruding abdominal muscle?

O.o

sure its not a hernia of some sort?

edit: too high for a hernia isnt it :/

intriguing but i've nfi, sorry...

Protruding abdominal muscle?

get it checked out by a doc, theres lots of bizarre things that happen to people medically, it could be harmless, but you never know it might also be dangerous. if you can take a photo for the doc as well, that might help if it comes up again.

Protruding abdominal muscle?

Bash, you should definitely get it checked out. It sounds like it could be a hernia to me, they can form pretty much anywhere on your abdominal wall although they seem to more often form around the groin area along the inguinal ligament. Don't take it lightly, if not a hernia it could be something else that needs to get taken care of!

Here is a link on hernias that may be of some help:

Good luck

My abs poke out like that as well. In my case it's a mild hernia. Not enough to have surgery over (at this point) but it does cause some occasional discomfort. Also, it's a great excuse for skipping ab workouts. Laughing out loud

They suck dont they... I did my occasional ab workout 3 days ago and I pulled a muscle... I have hayfever (it comes and goes some years... I wish I was consistent with my damn allergies!) and the pollen is getting something crazy atm, every time I sneeze its like being stabbed near my groin Sad
