I think we could all agree on the essentials of a home gym
O bar, Safety cage, dumbells, chin bar.
Any body hav any "odd" or pieces of equipment they love or don't see why they are not more popular.
Over the last 20 years I have got a few pieces. In order of preference and pretty much in order of frequency used:
1) Trap bar
(now my main lowerbody compound. Great for those doing other sports other than PL)
2) Bin'n'strong bungee (now bands) setup.
Absolutly fantastic way to use accomadating resistance
3) Hyper ext bench
So much for top three, now honourble mention
4) High/low cables
For some may consider a staple, I only use sometimes
5) Kettlebells. Not really for pure strength training but puts a new spin on cardio,(which I hate), with a strength & power aspect.
6) Ironmind hip belt
(for weighted chins, not belt squats)
7) Freespotter self spotting device
really cool. Even better for those w/ inferior or no safety cage
9) Ivanko supergripper.
Adjustable!
10) thick wrist roller - home made
and the rest"
11) Sledgehammer
12) Manta ray. Makes squats more comfy, protects an old neck injury. Tend to use trap bar more now.
13) Jumpsoles. Probably work, but my old achilles starts to hurt if used continuously. Used to develop fast entry in jiu jitsu, not jumping
14) EZ curl/tricep bar. Yes, sometimes I curl - in the squat-rack.
15) Rolling thunder handle. :x rarely used, cost a fortune. could jury rig somethtng similar.
16) Arm blaster! What was I thinking? Probably from high school though. Still have it.
I have more stuff, anyone ever hear of a dyno-trainer? Actually it's pretty good but you'll never see one. Uses a flywheel, does this gismo.
"odd" or uncommon equipment.
A LIFTING PLATFORM @)(%&@#)%&)@%!!!!! GRUMBLE GRUMBLE
sandbag(s)
pinching blocks
glute ham gastroc
SHIN PADS!!!!!
roman rings (they are good so shutup)
a v bar might be cool
To be honest though, imho a large martial arts/gymnastics room with a power corner and a platform + grip tools would be ideal. If only the human body could catch up...
"odd" or uncommon equipment.
Thick bars of all kinds.
Cambered bars
Chest supported rows.
plenty of other stuff..............
"odd" or uncommon equipment.
staley and others feel that the future of strength training will heavily incorporate odd, different, and strongman type lifts.
