Trying to implement some things from this weekend. Main things are:
1. less volume on the ME movement
2. more accessory movements
3. work harder at accessory movements (easier to do with less ME volume)
We set a new gym record with 7 lifters tonight. We'll have to figure out how to handle it more efficiently, but it's great.
Telling Bill that doing cross fit is stupid x 10ish
I was 248 when I got home Sunday. That's a 3 lb PR. No wonder everyone said I looked fat this weekend. My suit feels tighter. I had to loosen the straps to get to the bar.
I'll post video when it's available. It probably won't be until tomorrow night.
Hey, Marcus, I'm anxious to
Hey, Marcus, I'm anxious to get a bench shirt, a squat suit and a deadlifting suit. I was thinking of getting Inzer, if for no other reason than the fact that one of my favorite powerlifters, Jeffrey Vaughn, uses Inzer. But as you now know, I'm on a quest to get from 314 lbs to 275 lbs and cut my bodyfat % in half in five months. Do you think I should wait until I hit my target bodyweight before buying any gear? I'm afraid that if I bought it now, in five months it wouldn't even fit me.
I was also curious how much you get out of a deadlifting suit. I've heard that deadlift suits don't do nearly as much for you as squat suits, which is why many of the deadlifting records from the 80's still stand today. Do you get at least 50 lbs. more out of a deadlifting suit?
I'd wait to get gear.
I'd wait to get gear. That's too much weight loss to still wear the same stuff. I wouldn't lock yourself into one brand either. I tried out as much used stuff as I could when I started using gear. A lot depends if you plan to lift 1-ply or 2-ply.
I think I get about 60 lbs out of the suit sumo. Suits usually help more sumo, because sumo is most difficult off the floor. I used to train with a guy that got ~120 lbs out of his suit sumo. Most people get less from them conventional because lockout is hardest. The extra speed off the floor will help your lockout some.
Here's last nights training. It doesn't have as many captions as normal.

275 x 1

The 495 was probably the best shirted rep I've ever done.

This was really hard. The 15 rep sets sucked.

Nice job with the 495,
Nice job with the 495, Marcus! Thanks for the tips on the gear, too. I saw that in the video that you were doing overhead press lockouts. I thought I had read before that Simmons doesn't advocate OH presses much, and I know you are using a WSB template. Do you think the OH lockouts have helped your bench much?
I know Louie doesn't think
I know Louie doesn't think powerlifters need extra front delt work. That's why I do overhead lockouts. The bar is over the center of my shoulders or back. It's more lateral and rear delts that way. If I bring the bar down in front of my face, then it's too much on my front delts. I also have my pinkies on the rings to get some tricep work from it. I definitely think they help.

At this point, my joints were pissed at me and everything hurt. I did rehab stuff the rest of the workout. It's probably related to the storms we've been having. Cold and low pressure are not a good combo.

I think that's about it. I did hit a BW PR of 250 last night.
ME... not really
I did more recovery and mobility work today. I even squatted 3x10 with the SSB.
I did witness one of the most absurd things I've ever seen. Becky's deadlift has been 303 for a year and a half. She's been training with us for about 5 weeks now. She gets 305 easily. Then she goes 325. It's going so easily she starts laughing and can't lock it out. Who starts laughing in the middle of a ME lift that's a 20 lb PR?

I'm going to start doing recovery workouts. Everything will be light and for 3-5 minutes. Trying to implement more things from the seminar and Westside Book of Methods.
I'm in for the May, 26th meet at Super Training. I'll get a good 8+ weeks of training out of a mono for it.
ME bench
ME bench with reverse green bands:

405 x 3 (3-bd and shirt on)
495 x 2 (2-bd)

565 x miss (shoulders came out about half way up)
It seems when I start to spread the bar and focus on drifting the bar back my upper back loses tightness. I need to work on this.
T-bar row:
4 plates x 8
5 plates x 8
6 plates x 8
5 plates x 8
Tricep pushdown:
MM 4 x 8
Face pull with a little row:

That part took about an 1:15. I like the faster pace and being more organized with setting up the next exercises ahead of time. Then I did some recovery oriented work.
Mini band behind back press:
4.5 minutes
lateral, front, and bent over arm raises + cuban rotations:

I'm going to send my bench shirt out tomorrow to have it tightened up a bit. 3/4" out of the chest place and 3/8" on the sleeves. I can touch well below what I'd open with, so it's time to have it made tighter. I have this weird irrational fear that I won't be able to touch weights or get depth at meets. Yet, I've never had an issue with either one.
It looks like Team Wild Iron will have 4 lifters in the April, 26th USPF meet at Super Training. I'll be going to coach/handle everyone.

My raw bench and military press SUCK compared to where they used to be. I'll be working on getting them back up to par. I think it's because I've had issues with my right front delt, so I've backed off a bit on it. It feels good now, so I need to get serious about training it.
