I occasionally get a sharp pain below and to the right of my knee cap on my left leg from squatting. The weight im squatting seems to have no bearing on weather the pain occurs or not for example yesterday I was warming up by doing bodyweight atg squats and it happened again the pain lasts for a few days, its quite sharp. Massaging seems to help quicken the recovery. What do you guys think is causing this problem? Incorrect knee cap tracking? Weak vmo? What can I do to fix this this problem
Thanks in advance

no no its on the front of the knee. between where the bones of the knee meet probably near the lateral patellar retinaculum or the lower part of the illiotibal band or the upper patellar tendon in that pic, the pain is in a small area just to the right of the knee cap
ignore this bit if i explained myself clearly enough
heres a pic that may help me explain it a bit better

thanks for the reply
yes i very recently starting doing them, afaik there an exercise designed to help strengthen the vmo? i just wasnt sure if that was the cause of my problem
Petersons and Physio
Do the Petersons.

Do you have a competent physiotherapist you can visit? Find out the cause, get some treatment and rehab????
But do the Petersons anyway - and keep your form good.

Massage them before working
Massage them before working out. The VMO may not be firing properly whether it's strong enough or not.
Also, how much unilateral work do you perform?
