Entrapped ulnar nerve

I recently started to suffer from an entrapped ulnar nerve. My right pinky and bottom of right hand are numb from this condition. I did have two previous elbow surgeries, and now I do not have full range of motion on my elbow. I want to avoid a third surgery. I see a orthoped this week and leading up to then I am trying to research possibilities.

It seems if exercise does not help, the only other treatment is surgery to move the ulnar nerve from the back of the arm to the front. This has a recovery time of one to two years. Yuck!

I am trying to find something like chiropractic, rolfing - anything to avoid surgery. Anyone have any experience or insight into this?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, I had the ulnar nerve

Jim, I had the ulnar nerve transposition on my right elbow about 15 years ago. My little and ring finger would curl up by mid morning each day from the irritation on the nerve. From what I remember my recovery was about 4 months for complete range of motion and back into the gym, it took a quite a while longer for the tingling and feeling to return. I also had the ulnar nerve released on the left elbow; the neurosurgeon felt this was a better way to treat the issue on the arm. This was done 9 years ago and my symptoms are starting to return on the left arm. I had a slightly faster recovery on the left arm, but if it gets to the point of needing surgery again, I'll have an ortho do the transposition. Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I found out I need to have the transposition surgery to correct my condition. It turns out I have a lot of muscle loss, and the condition has been around a while. I guess from working out I was bale to mask it. I was told the muscle loss is permanent, I want to prove the doctor wrong. Thanks for providing your experience.
