I know it is perhaps very silly to compare these two champions. But who is better. Please lend in your views.

Better at what? ARNOLD Is the all time ACTION MOVIE ACTOR By far, Stallone doesnt even come close.

Who's more successful? ARNOLD again. AT EVERYTHING!!

Who was better built ? ARNOLD AGAIN!!

Remember, in real life, Stallone is about 140 lbs. I saw him 2 years ago, he was so tiny, I couldnt believe it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

Having met Arnie in 1979 or 1980 in Germany when he visited the gym whose owner promote his 1 st major contest I can tell you he has a ton more of charisma. He was 210 lbs soaking wet at 6 feet 1 or 2 yet you could sense the room filling with unique atmosphere when he entered. I was 1 of 2 guys asking for an autographed pic then.... Arnie`s last Olympia win then was 4 to 5 years ago and he in no way had made visible progress in his Hollywood ambitions at that time. Many thought him to be at the end of the line. After that encounter I knew that he would succeed at everything he would get ambitious at. Godgiven charisma 10:1 for Arnie in real life.

As an actor in front of the movie camera Arnie is not even mediocre. But his charisma carries him through. In real life he is top notch as an actor (like most selfmade men) but once the movie cam is running he is even more wooden than Charlton Heston  . I would rate Sly 1-2 classes higher there. Both are not excactly fascinating movie actors anyway. On the opposite end of the spectrum as actors there have a look at, for example, Anthony Hopkins (as Hannibal) or the late Gert Fröbe (Goldfinger, of mice and men, etc.). These are highly gifted actors. Arnie is not even 1 % of them imho as a movie actor. Sly perhaps a full 1 %. But: Sly has made a helluva lot of his far more limited talents in real life. I give him credit for that. Rocky script was his catalyst and brought him to the flow. Without it he would have gone nowhere. Arnie would have risen to the top on many other ways, even without bodybuilding a a start aid.

As a sportsman Arnie overshadows Sly by such a margin that a comparism is ridiculous. In real life Arnold is what most brilliant movie actors are not, highly charismatic. He lives in reality what they act to a phantasy script. So his incentive for acting is very low anyway. I won`t be surprised if he becomes president, Austria has always had exceptionally gifted guys in the charisma department Puzzled

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

Yes, the constitution currently denies him the possibility to become president. But that won`t stop him if he lives long enough.

Arnie is truly great.. I keep his photograph on my desktop in office.. where he is performing squats in gym.

No one lives that long, especially the terminator. The last time there was even the slightest mention of amending that part of the Constitution it was on behalf of Henry Kissinger, who as the Secretary of State was infinitely more qualified for the job than Arnold will ever be. And it never happened.

Currently I have quiet some free time on my hands so here we go: Well Stan, Arnie has overcome quiet some impossible odds. Being the son of an Austrian Ex Gestapo policeman and now being helped by the US Jewish comittee wouldn`t make any Hollywood movie script, would it? It would be brushed off as total bullcrap. not even believable in the dream factory scripts. But it happens since the 1970s for Arnie, nothing wrong with it, he is not responsible for his dad. He started in 1968 as a carpenter`s( or some other bluecollar job`s) helpboy for Franco Columbu in LA with minimum English language...and married into the mightiest family in the US at that time in 1986.... He starts as a bodybuilder in movies where musclemen were humiliated and always got the shitty end of the stick. Declaring then he would make as much $s as the then No.1 paid actor Clint Eastwood. Everybody laughed bigtime but again he made the impossible happen as the planet`s No. 1 paid actor of his era for 2 decades....The list goes on and on and far further than that...

Dejavue: The odds are again totally against him regarding his longrange goal of becoming the president. In the midth of the 1970s he told an influential lady "better treat me well, I might become your president in the future...". Did you know Vladimir Putin asked for an autograph from Arnie as of late?

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

most people agree on the fact that America is the best country on the earth... and its perhaps a very distant dream of arnie to become president .. but its the only place where he can actually be the president.... (but its actually very very difficult).

Sly vs. Arnold.

Frankly, I think they both made great movies, and some not so great. Rocky vs. Terminator.... Which is better? Well, I'd have to give the nod to Rocky, but it was a better script.

Both these guys, I believe are underrated actors. No, they don't speak well, but they know how to produce a good movie. What's a good movie? If it entertains me, it's a good movie!

The new Rocky movie is out... I haven't seen it. When I do, I can make a better judgement. But they both know how to act. Frankly.... My favorite actor is Morgan Freeman.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

In one of Arnolds biographies, he specifically states that his childhood dream was to become a famous body builder and movie star, and then to hold a high political office. He has done exactly that... amazing.

Arnold and Sly

Making movies not money made for a movie I would go with Sly He writes produces and directs them .Bodies well who else Arnold .But in a over 60 class today I would go with Sly .Sly also won for best picture in Rocky so he;s a very good writer .I heard when Sly was in that movie "Copland" that he almost got nominated for best actor also so is a good actor .

Arnold's career in bodybuilding , movies and politics is amazing to say the least !

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

Someone ought to submit the possibilities of Stallone vs. Arnold to that MTV show "Celebrity Deathmatch".
Both of these characters already appear to be made of clay, so they'd have a head start.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

Admittedly Sly acts well in Copland. But in the other movies I give him 3 of 10 possible points and Arnie ca. 1. "Except" in Terminator but what great acting ability is needed to act as a cyborg?

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

Rock, I can't verify this but I would place a small wager Rocky I-IV (written by Stalone) was more popular then Terminator I-III. (which Arnold had a small handfull of one liners). Both were their biggest roles.

Stalone played the roles of underdogs that overcame terrible odds to win and Arnold's biggest role was a machine to destroy humanity.

Stalone has shared movies with such famous actors as Carl Weathers, Brian Denehy, and many others and the only really famous co-actor I know of Arnold starring with was Danny Davito and Richard Dawson.

Stalone was a better actor, and writer but did not compare with Arnold's physique. I like Arnold but he wasn't much for acting as far as drama or lines but played a good role for an action hero in many films.

It's funny, watch Twins, the debate was on in the late 80's after Arnold was becoming a star. Arnold in the movie walks past a movie poster of Stalone all cut and ripped and flex's his muscle and laughs at the Stalone poster. It is funny. I think the point was Arnold wanted to be known for more films that were not action. Stalone was the guy Arnold wanted to replace.

Like I said I like both, but my favorite Arnold movie is Pumping Iron because he was himself. (I still think Furigno came pretty close to taking the Mr. O HAHA) but the Judges liked a smaller cut (wrinkled) back then the great form and size of furrigno which was much more natural and healthy.

Since you asked the question I had to find the answer.

I went to Boxofficemojo and downloaded the domestic grosses for both actors.

After adjusting for inflation, Arnold sold $2.5B while Sly sold @2.9B.

Rocky 1-4 sold $1.1B and Terminator 1-3 sold $560M.

The top grosing Rocky was #1 at $362M.
The top grossing Terminator was #2 at #320M.

However after Rocky 4, Arnold outsold Sly by 72%.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

Very interesting numbers. Arnold really established himself ca. 6-8 years after Sly. So a direct time comparism is not fair vs the governator. Sly should give Chuck Wepner a few millions. Without the Wepner-Ali fight there would have been no Rocky script.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

HA, funny stuff here....

Stallone's career began with the leading role, Stud, in a hard-core pornographic film called Party at Kitty and Stud's. The film was originally hard core and depicted sexual acts, but after Stallone's later success, the film was re-cut to soft-core and re-packaged as Italian Stallion (a reference to Rocky Balboa's nickname).

Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Sylvester Stallone

Yeah, hence the nickname "sly" LOL

Yeah, his frist big scrreen movie was Death Race 2000 which was probably rated a B or C movie but had Caridene and was funny.

Lord of Flatbush was another one of his firsts, I think.
